Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
2 medium onions, diced
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
28 oz can tomato puree
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp of kosher salt
1 tsp of chili powder
1/2 tsp of sugar
1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper
1 bay leaf
Directions
- Brown ground beef, drain fat
- Add onions, mushrooms and garlic, cook until softened
- Add the rest of the ingredients, bring to a boil, and reduce to a simmer for two hours
- Serve with a sturdy pasta
Notes
- This recipe was originally made with tomato juice, tomato sauce and tomato paste. I prefer using the tomato puree. Drain the pasta before serving, and stir in some of the sauce to keep the pasta from sticking together, than serve with the remaining sauce
