Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 2 medium onions, diced

  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 28 oz can tomato puree

  • 1 tsp dried basil

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • 1 tsp of kosher salt

  • 1 tsp of chili powder

  • 1/2 tsp of sugar

  • 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper

  • 1 bay leaf

Directions

  • Brown ground beef, drain fat
  • Add onions, mushrooms and garlic, cook until softened
  • Add the rest of the ingredients, bring to a boil, and reduce to a simmer for two hours
  • Serve with a sturdy pasta

Notes

  • This recipe was originally made with tomato juice, tomato sauce and tomato paste. I prefer using the tomato puree. Drain the pasta before serving, and stir in some of the sauce to keep the pasta from sticking together, than serve with the remaining sauce
